LOVE AND EMBRACE CHILDREN. THEY ARE A BLESSING.

Mathew 18:1-5

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.

Mark 10:13-16

People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.

Psalms 127:3

Children are a gift from the the Lord, they are a real blessing.

Mathew 18:10

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven are always in the presence of my my Father in heaven.”

One reason I love reading the Bible early mornings like this, it is because it always leaves me with adoration for our mighty God for His love and care. It gives me an encouragement that Jesus  loved children and so should I keep loving them. Today I was reading and  reflecting about life and I compiled some of the scriptures that talk about children.

When I was a child, I remember every person who loved me. I remember every person who gave me a coin (these were my favourite because I could buy whatever I wanted) I remember everyone who told me I was beautiful or simply took care of me.

I do not know whether that applies to every child, but I certainly do know that it applies to every child who has a rough start in life. Hardly do people notice them, hardly do people smile at them. Yet We are all human and it’s human nature to crave for love and care.

I know I have said this a million times that in every child I see a reflection of myself. I don’t know the future I may not live to be popular enough to inspire as many children as I would wish to, but any child that God brings my way, I will love them. I may not even have much to give them. But will give them a smile. Hug them. Tell them they are are beautiful.

Because everything I do, I do for them. When I write I think how will this inspire a broken child?

When I give a speech I try to give my experiences as much as I can, and open about my imperfections for them to see if God did it for me, he can do it for them too.  When I chose to open up about my life it was tricky, given I wanted to live in the fantasy of the life I have now, but I had to do it for the many children I had interacted with during my mentorship and then they would tell me ‘I wish I was  like you’ I had to let them know that my life was not perfect. That despite my ever big smile, I was ever that child who felt unloved, unwanted and that I have struggled with depression for so long and been suicidal many times. I still have areas I have to work on on self acceptance, but I strive everyday to be a little better. For them.

I think We should all strive to make the world a better place for little ones. Children are innocent. They know no religion, no tribe, no skin colour, no class or status.

If all of us took care of at least one child regardless of whether we know them or not and encouraged them to be better everyday, it would be a little heaven down here.

Just like Martin Luther King I also have a dream…That every little girl and little boy will have someone who takes care of them, hugs them and loves them.
